About Me

Welcome to my academic research website! I am a researcher specializing in computational and theoretical neuroscience, neural dynamics, and cellular-level modeling.

My work focuses on developing and simulating computational models to investigate neural mechanisms, membrane potentials, and synaptic plasticity.

My Academic Journey

Foundations in Physics (B.Sc. & M.Sc.)

My scientific path began with a rigorous education in Physics during my Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees. Studying classical mechanics, thermodynamics, and dynamical systems provided me with a strong mathematical framework and a deep intuition for how physical laws govern complex systems. During this time, I grew fascinated by non-linear dynamics and physical systems that exhibit emergent properties—concepts that naturally led me toward biological phenomena.

Transitioning to Computational & Theoretical Neuroscience (Ph.D.)

Driven by a desire to apply physical principles to complex biological neural networks, I transitioned into theoretical neuroscience for my Ph.D. My doctoral research focused on single-neuron and network-level electrophysiology, using biophysical models—such as modified Hodgkin-Huxley formulations—to investigate:

  • Axonal Ion Channel Cooperativity: Examining how non-linear channel kinetics influence action potential initiation and propagation dynamics.
  • Membrane Capacitance & Excitability: Investigating how non-linear axonal membrane capacitance and refractory dynamics shape spike train patterns and neural responses to external stimulation (e.g., peripheral nerve and deep brain stimulation).

Basal Ganglia & Levodopa-Induced Dyskinesia (Post-Ph.D. Research)

Following my Ph.D. and prior to joining the University of Calgary, I expanded my focus toward striatal circuit dynamics and movement disorders. Specifically, I developed detailed biophysical simulations of striatal Medium Spiny Neurons (MSNs) to investigate the cellular and synaptic alterations associated with Levodopa-Induced Dyskinesia (LID). By modeling synaptic plasticity curves (STDP), dopamine depletion, and altered intrinsic excitability in MSNs, this work aimed to elucidate how long-term L-DOPA treatment reshapes basal ganglia signaling and motor circuit dysfunction.
